Meet Alis Wang

A Commitment to Service and Solutions

Alis is a former CIA Middle East Analyst with 18 years of experience across the public and private sectors, specializing in national security, counterterrorism, and geopolitical risk. In her professional career, she has led teams, managed complex projects, and delivered results when the stakes were highest.

Alis is a lifelong Democrat and currently serves as the Mason District Planning Commissioner on the Fairfax County Planning Commission. She is a former member of the Mason District Land Use Committee, the Crossroads and Corners Coalition Board, and the Fairfax County Human Services Council, where she served as Vice Chair and Budget Chair. Additionally, Alis served as the Vice President of the Lake Barcroft Association and is certified as a Fairfax County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. In all of these endeavors, one thread has remained constant: Alis shows up, listens with an open mind, and works alongside people from all walks of life to find common ground and move our community forward.

Alis was born in Southwest Virginia to immigrants from Taiwan, who taught her about the importance of hard work, persistence, and belief in a brighter future. She has lived with her wife Amy, a nurse practitioner and ultramarathon runner, in their home in Falls Church since 2015. Alis attended public schools K-12 and graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in Public and International Affairs, where she first developed an interest in finding smart, practical solutions to the challenges communities face. She earned master’s degrees in International Relations from the London School of Economics and in Politics from New York University.

In her free time, Alis enjoys running in Northern Virginia’s parks and trails, skiing, playing the violin, competing in HYROX races, and reading old fashioned paper books.
